The Bridal Shower...

....my bridal shower! How did I go from an awkward teenage girl who was terrified of actually having a conversation with a guy, to a mere month from my very own wedding? While singlehood felt like it had lasted f.o.r.e.v.e.r., now that it is nearly over, I can't believe it went by so fast!
My sister and maid-of-honer, Amelia, planned a sweet little shower for me at our church. The decorations (I hear there was some help from Pinterest) were too cute! I loved the little Hershey kiss roses!

And the food was beyond amazing! Becky's cheesecake was pretty much the event!

I was unprepared for all the friends who came and more than showered Justin and I with gifts for our new home! I'm so thankful for the support they gave me, the love and laughter, helping to make my dreams come true.

I will miss my friends, co-workers, family (new and old!) and I'm so grateful for this special time to have each of them in my life!
Left-to-right: Maria, the matchmaker who set Justin and I up; Gretchen, my amazing mother-in-law to be; Stacey, my sweet co-worker.
My gorgeous sisters and mother!

Holly and Keith

Holly and Keith had a beautiful little outdoor ceremony near Lake Superior.

The charming, outdoorsy decorations were a perfect touch!

Holly's daughters sprinkled the pathway with colorful leaves.

A blazing fire kept us warm, although the love radiating from the couple was enough chase away the September chill.

Always and Forever

One month ago today, on a rustic log bench along Lake Michigan, the love of my life handed me a rose, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him.

I did a mini-self engagement shoot this past weekend. The autumn colors are at their peak right now, and we enjoyed walking the beautiful trails.

Every day, I fall more in love with this man...

...who loves me so much more than I ever dreamed possible!

On December 31, 2012, we'll begin our new life together.

Bond Falls

Bond Falls is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been! I can't believe I had never been there before, although I've driven through Paulding many times and passed the signs. There are well-kept walkways all along the falls (sadly, I missed any photos of them!) and benches at the bottom of the falls. There are several levels of the falls; pictured here are right and left shots of the lowest level.

I'm planning to return to this picturesque place! Hint: It's also a perfect, romantic spot to visit with someone special! :)

Listening to the sky...

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above declares his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. Psalm 19:1-2

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

It was Saturday morning. I was really, really tired. I had worked 8 hours at Shopko, skipped supper, headed to the office to clean another four hours, drove home, showered, grabbed a slice of cold pizza at 1 a.m., and finally fell asleep. The kind of sleep where you can not get up, no matter how much you need to. I had forgotten to put my fresh, homemade, strawberry jam in the freezer, I hadn't packed for my trip. I had to go to work, again, and I wasn't sure if I had completed my online homework assignments for the week.
But it was Saturday morning. I didn't have to drive my sister to work. I had talked my co-worker into letting me come in at 1 p.m. instead of 10 a.m. The sun was shining. And I had a big bowl of fresh-picked strawberries.
My sister mixed up some pancake batter while I packed my suitcase. I whipped some real cream, and sliced some berries. We added some patio furniture, the clear blue sky, ice water and lemon, and a bouquet of flowers. And for 30 minutes, we enjoyed a beautiful slice of heaven.

Today, I'm thankful for small tokens of beauty and encouragement. For whispers of hope, faith and love. I'm thankful for the truth of God, and that no matter how black the darkness is, His light is brighter.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Brooke and Jamie: Wedding

Jamie and Brooke had a lovely ceremony on a warm afternoon in May. In all the weddings I've attended and/or photographed, I have never seen a groom so in awe of his bride as Jamie was when Brooke was escorted up the aisle by her parents.

Brooke's colors were blue and orange...an incredible combination! I especially like the table centerpieces/party favors.

Congratulations, Jamie and Brooke!

It's been an entire month since I blogged! It's springtime now, the snow has left the Upper Peninsula, the robins came back and the grass is actually looking green! I have three more finals over the next 6 days, then a month-a blissful month-with no classes! Yes, I still enjoy learning, I love being in school. But I have spent a lot less time doing homework this semester, less time with my camera, less time blogging...
I have spent a lot more time on the phone...more time taking rambling walks...more time discovering and enjoying a gift that took me completely by surprise.

His name is Justin.

Gregory and Kathleen: Before the Wedding

It's so much fun to photograph a wedding party and wedding preparation! The beautiful bride and bridesmaids, the handsome groom and groomsmen, the flowers, the nervous excitement in the air...

I think they were having fun, too. :)

Homemade Bagels and Japanese Pancakes

I own one cookbook. It's a cookbook my church compiled, and in the two years I've had it, I've opened it about 3 times. Each time was to use the same recipe. As I've mentioned before, I rarely try new recipes. My friend Mary, on the other hand, loves new recipes, especially if they have an unusual title. We love cooking together. I voice all the reasons it won't turn out, and lament the missing ingredients. Mary just laughs and assures me it will be fantastic.
Yesterday my phone rang.
"I'm going to make bagels," Mary cheerfully informed me. "Want to come over?"
"O......kay. I've never made bagels."
"I haven't either."
"Do you have bagel flour? I've heard they turn out much better if you use bagel flour...whatever that is."
"No."
"Well, should I get some? I'm driving by the store."
"No, I already started them."

Bagel flour or no bagel flour, it was a blast. After letting the dough rise...and mixing in more flour and letting the dough rise...and punching it down and letting the dough rise...we reached the fun part. Each little ball was rolled into a rope, pinched together (harder than it sounds!), dropped in boiling water for 10 seconds to give them "that awesome bagel crust", brushed with egg, dotted with sesame or poppy seeds, set out to rise again, and finally, baked.

As we finished a warm bagel with cream cheese, Mary opened the cookbook again. "What should I make for supper...Japanese Pancakes?" She slid the book toward me.
I like pancakes. There was just one problem. The first ingredient was...cabbage. Then celery, carrots, and onions! Add a half cup of meat, or fish, or "whatever you want". What legitimate recipe called for a half cup of whatever you want?! It sounded terrible. Once I passed my initial reaction, I realized I was fine with the recipe as long as I ignored the word "pancake". I re-named it "Mixed-up, Fried Casserole" (to Mary's chagrin) and started dicing celery. The flavor and texture was reminiscent of Chicken Pot-pie.  And the best part? It was delicious!

Redridge Exploring

Yesterday was one of those amazing January days. The last snowstorm was over and everything was covered in a sparkling, white blanket. It was 30 degrees, the sun was shining, and I was itching to ignore homework get outside and enjoy some winter exercise. I picked up a friend and some snowshoes and we decided to venture out to Lake Superior. On the way, we passed a sign pointing to Redridge. Neither of us knew where or what that was, but it sounded adventurous so I turned around and took some back roads until we arrived a spot that seemed like a good place to hike. It was beautiful and perfect.
